... Collars
Most collars on the market are circular but only few people have a circular neck. For a perfect fit i make the collar individual for the prospective wearer′s neck. Therefore not only the circumference is required but also the diameters from front to back and from left to right side.
measuring the circumference
Use a tape measure and take your measurement in the lower third of the neck. The tape should just touch the skin but don´t tighten it.
For the neck-corset we need the circumference in the upper third of the neck too.
measuring the diameters
This is a little bit more difficult and the help of a second person would be helpful. If you don´t have a caliper gauge for measuring the diameters, the following method will work too:

cardboard
Then try to push it over your neck. If the cutout is to small, you make it a little bit wider.
You got the correct measurement, if you can push it to your neck and there is very little distance to your skin on both sides (less than 1mm).
If you have found the diameter from left to right you take the cardboard and try to push it over your neck from the side, to find the diameter from front to back.
check your measurements for plausibility
You can check your measurements as follows:Add both diameters and multiply the result with 1.57.
The result should be nearly equal the measured circumference, otherwise something went wrong.
